Macrobiotics is not a fad diet nor is it a vegan diet since fish is included depending on your health. The word macrobiotic comes from the Greek and literally means "great or large life".

Our bodies seek balance whether we realize it or not. Many of our everyday food choices are our bodies seeking balance. A basic example is when you eat salty foods your body gets thirsty and wants fluid. Salt being a yang quality and fluid is yin. Animal foods are yang and alcohol is yin, beer is drunk at the BBQ before (and after) eating a large steak. Meat and potatoes are another example, animal foods are yang and potatoes are yin, these are a few examples of the body balancing out what we eat.

Cold is yin, people who live in very cold climates eat more animal foods and are quite healthy. Animal foods are considered yang. Where you live influences how you live and what you eat to be in balance with nature. Eskimos for example eat a great deal of meat such as deer and fish, sometimes that's all they do eat, living in this extremely cold climate. People living in a hot climate, which is yang, usually eat much lighter foods such as fruits, which are considered yin. It is about living in balance with nature and not fighting it all the time. For the majority of us who live in a temperate climate with different seasons, we still eat according to nature without realizing it much of the time. We tend to eat more meat in the winter and lighter foods in the summer such as fruits and salads.

Recession Diet

Nobody likes to talk about the gloomy economic conditions that the US has endured the past year or so. People are tightening their budgets left and right and probably the biggest area to get cut was eating out. I cut that out of my budget about three years ago when I revolted against big city living and uprooted my family for a small desert town in the southwest. Our restaurant choices went from thousands to about fifteen. Dining out became a luxury not a common occurrence that we had grown accustomed to as a city dwellers. I noticed that my daily activity didn't chance much, but my waistline was shrinking. I attributed the weight loss to my lack of access to fries, burgers and all those "healthy" salads at the chain restaurants that I craved so much.

Last summer the economic was in a down-ward spiral. Just in time for my husband and I to start a specialty retail store in our small tourist town. That's when I unofficially started my recession diet. I really did not think too much about losing weight, I was too busy trying to save every penny so we could operate our new store. I used to love weekly grocery shopping, leisurely strolls through the aisles on Saturday nights (yes, I have kids - this is the best time to shop), searching for weekly specials not thinking too much about how much this will cost. With our current economic situation I now have an agenda when I enter the grocery store; it's a short detailed list of essential food items to get through the next week. I no longer buy name brand foods or the little "extras" that add to your bottom - line. I search for sales on staple items, make my own sauces and plan out weekly meals that can be used for lunches the next day. We now have portion control when serving me als to have leftovers. We no longer have a pantry full of snacks that everyone was accustomed to, nor a freezer full of heat 'n eat meals. My teenagers are forced to actually cook their food - what a novel idea! I once made stove-top popcorn for my daughter's birthday party and all of her friends commented on how good it tasted. Some had never eaten popcorn cooked like that!

It has been three years since relocating and I have lost a total of 20 pounds with zero exercise - 15 since last summer's economic spiral. My family is not starving, just being more frugal with our food resources. I did not plan to lose weight, needed to. This past year of budget tightening has made me realize that we don't need all the little extras to nosh on during the day; like an endless supply of soda in the fridge, or four different bags of chips in the pantry. What we need is food on the table three times a day, to have meals with our families and a little sweet tea to drink.

If My Husband Eats An Alkaline Diet, Will We Have A Boy? If He Eats An Acidic Diet, Will We Have A Girl? - Family - Pregnancy

I often hear with couples who have learned about how diet can influence your baby's gender. Many are trying to conceive and want to know what both the man and woman (or the mother and father to be) should be eating if they want a girl or boy baby. I recently heard from a woman who was trying to come up with a diet for her husband in order for them to conceive a boy, but she couldn't find a lot of literature as to what her husband should be eating when they were having sex and trying to become pregnant.

She asked, in part: "can foods really affect the gender of a man's sperm? In other words, if I feed my husband certain foods, can I make sure that he has more Y or boy sperm? If so, what should he be eating?" I will try to answer these questions in the following article.

Unfortunately, There's No Evidence Indicating That Foods Or Diet Affect A Man's Sperm In Terms Of Gender: Although there are plenty of theories about how a woman or mother-to-be's diet affects her baby's gender (more on this below,) the same is not true for the father's diet. Although there is some literature about men's diets affecting the quality and viability of the sperm, nothing suggest that a man's or father's diet plays a role in the ratio of X's to Y's (or girl to boy producing sperm or vice verse.)

In fact, researchers have looked at the sperm of men who produce the same gender exclusively (for example a man who has several daughters or sons) and they have not found any difference in the ratio of the gender of the sperm. In other words, men who produced only girls still were producing roughly the same amount of boy or Y sperm while the men who had sons still were producing plenty or X or girl producing sperm.

So while it makes sense to encourage the father to be to eat a balanced and healthy diet, there's nothing that would indicate that you'd need to put him on a special diet in order to encourage more X or Y sperm depending on the gender that you want. In other words, feeding acidic foods to a man in the hopes of conceiving a girl baby isn't likely to be nearly as effective as tweaking the mother's diet. And, in my opinion and experience, you'd had a much higher chance of reaching the goal of conceiving a boy baby if you focused on an alkaline diet for the mother rather than for the father. The reason is that the mother-to-be's diet can have a huge effect on her baby's gender which leads me to my next point.

Foods Consumed By The Mother To Be Are Said To Affect Her Baby's Gender. Here's Why: The foods that a woman eats can have an effect on or change her vaginal PH. If she eats more acidic foods (which tend to be more processed foods including meat and dairy,) then this will in turn make her vaginal environment more acidic which then in turn makes her more likely to conceive a boy. This is because the Y sperm that the man produces tend to weaken or die off when the PH is too acidic. Likewise, when a woman consumes an alkaline diet (which tends to include more fruits and vegetables although a few fruits and vegetables are acidic rather than alkaline) this encourages and preserves those Y sperm that we just talked about and gives her a great chance of conceiving a boy.

Changing your PH and influencing your baby's gender through food is possible, but you'll often have better results if you use a PH tester to see where you really are and what changes are really taking place. And, things aren't always so simple in terms of alkaline or acidic foods. There seems to be exceptions to every rule and everyone's body reacts differently. You can also combine douching with your diet for faster results. In addition to foods and diet, both the mother and the father to be should be very aware of the timing and the sexual positions that they are using as both can also greatly impact baby gender.
